Global Governance and Machine à Gouverner

Nearly a century ago thinkers in France like Bernard Charbonneau and Jacques Ellul warned we were all engaged in evolution by revolution. Even would-be reformers feed mechanisms of technique and technology. Dominique Dubarle talked of a machine to govern in 1948. He understood the objective of dehumanising-government by the machine. He may have hoped dialogue with Marxists would convert them to the dangers but that fails to recognise their mechanophilia. Capitalists and communists have faith in the machine and merely tussle for who should be entitled to run them. Both focus on productionism.

It is deeper. We face a choice between a spiritual and incarnated idea of the sacred and natural womb or matrix of the mother or a mechanical matrix of ectogenesis and dispirited or devilish machines. Call me old-fashioned but yes, the demonic will increasingly manifest to confound the spiritual unbelievers who only have faith in machinery and mechanisms.

The goal of globalism is to simply take total control of all production of everything worldwide, all material objects, nature, reality and even humanity in a complete, artificial, integrated techno-entity. In this posthuman materialist, mechanistic enterprise, the left and right political divisions combine in their assault and eradication of reality of spiritual consciousness. That some do not understand may invite the words of Jesus.

"Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.”

If I was hazarding a guess, there’ll be little forgiveness for people who claim to know so much and deliberately interfere in the essence of human existence to facilitate systems of commerce, communism and atheistic medical control and mock the spiritual realm and especially God.

"For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall much be required."

That is especially the case when the eugenic empire translates into technocracy necessary for total bio-control as implied by H.G. Wells. They won’t expect forgiveness nor want it no doubt. But I assume even they would concede as a gedankenexperiment that if God existed, (especially one as revealed through Jesus Christ) the Father of Creation would not entertain an excuse for fundamentally altering and de-humanising humans, rendering them into the image of technoscientific re-engineers. Worse they openly claim to be making God. These engineers, often with public funding are claiming they are above God. I have been listening to them. AI-Posthumanism will progress through AI-Govnerveance.

The language of ‘the machine’ and The Machine is appropriately in vogue again. Paul Kingsnorth has been framing his critique thus. Our thinking is framed by the machine. The Luddites were attacking frames which gave us the language of computers and mainframes. These frames were mental, conceptual and cultural as well. From da Vinci to Descartes and de la Mettrie, the machine idea and the automatic condition informs mechanistic ideas of who we are. The concept of a frame is related to structures, but its etymological Old English, Proto-Germanic roots were less about structure and more about profiting, promoting, advancing or supporting. Its original meaning is manifest in words like the Swedish ‘främja.’ Framing was about bringing forth as is seen in the context of use of framing in art and informational contexts today. Framing is creative and active and the structures and machines are products of a psychological and psychic process.

The Machine was an idea Tolkien noted. It represented the total control system, the One Ring beyond moral responsibility. C.S. Lewis did refer to the machine in the sense of the technocratic control system of scientism that prefigured the scientocracy he feared. They were also influenced by Steiner who was very conscious of the machine. He talked about the externalisation of apparatus which would replace inherent, interior powers. We might contrast this with the metaphor of The Interior Castle of Teresa of Ávila. In the spiritual, mystical or Carmelite path, you encounter within and experience in community the existing spiritual world through entering and not exploiting externally. Richard Dawkins and his extended phenotype perfectly reflects the biologically reductionist organic machinery he can only see. Biology is machinery and we are survival machines.

That humans are machines is one philosophical proposition. This is related to an idea of nature and society as a machine. Then there is the idea of the divine machines, analogies, metaphors, scientific and philosophical thought in Leibniz and Newton. They are interrelated and reflexively related but must be disentangled. What I would particularly draw attention to is the idea of machines of government and governance. We can trace this to Hobbes and back beyond up through the process of cybernetics. Cybernetics could have been implemented in Chile by Salvador Allende if he had not been overthrown. Norbert Weiner and others like Dominic Dubarle realised the dangers of technical systems of governance. The machine idea was enhanced by addition or adjectives and adverbs at least.

Ironically while the machine as metaphor has been studied by Hock and Springer and others, now people who seem to be talking about the same thing, especially in relations to governance, are suggesting we abandon talk of control-towers and machines for more enlightening terms like ‘cathedrals.’ Bazaar is another suggestion. Metaphors should be living some say. That appears to corroborate my fears of how religion will be sucked into the apparatus of the New World Order. I suggest it is bizarre. People say it should be more ‘dynamic.’ Ironically dynamic is a machine metaphor. Re-framing, especially that which appropriates religious ideas, will not serve to illuminate but obscure.

The Mean Machine

One interesting example of the idea of the machine came from The Last Poets in 1971 in a song called The Mean Machine. Others of the Beat generation, especially Kerouac and Ginsberg, articulated their concern for the machine which manifested in ideas of Moloch (for the latter) implying a dark spiritual input. The Last Poets were the last before guns in their own vision, the anticipators of Hip-Hop before the genuine artistic movement was arguably assumed into the machine of production. They reflect some Soul sensibility or modern sense of continuity with the Black Spirituals, the songs and hymns of slavery and power of divine grace and hope for freedom. ♬

“For the Devil would have you believe he is God

Chemical drugs that keep you high

While the Mean Machine creates another lie

For power and glory and world wide fame.”

Our era is defined by technological convergence facilitated by the one digital language calculated to build heaven on earth. Now we face the reality of total convergence. The disparate and formerly discrete systems come together in networks. Humans are to be integrated into these networks. Thus the human machine operating with a social machine in a universal machine is explicitly translated. This is the implication of transhumanism and posthumanism.

This is not a mere intellectual, academic or philosophical issue. It is an actual political, policy and practical issue. Look at President Biden’s Executive Order 14081 - Advancing Biotechnology and Biomanufacturing Innovation for a Sustainable, Safe, and Secure American Bioeconomy, September 12, 2022.

“For biotechnology and biomanufacturing to help us achieve our societal goals, the United States needs to invest in foundational scientific capabilities. We need to develop genetic engineering technologies and techniques to be able to write circuitry for cells and predictably program biology in the same way in which we write software and program computers; unlock the power of biological data, including through computing tools and artificial intelligence; and advance the science of scale-up production while reducing the obstacles for commercialization so that innovative technologies and products can reach markets faster.”

Political power, as steered by commerce, is openly committed to using your money to be able to program you down to the cellular level including the capacity to disrupt your genetic heritage and potential. You can trust these people with your eternal soul can’t you? But if some spiritual thinkers (myself included) are correct, this represents a demonic or diabolical endeavour. Whatever about language of the machine, the reality of the demonic will be writ large soon.

The Last Poets were aware of what Mary Harrington identifies with transhumanism. 🎵

“Population control of the people with soul

All over the planet Earth

Manipulating their will with a tiny white pill

To control their natural birth

Behind the scene schemes furthering the Mean Machine's dreams

Of conquest and world domination.”

The Mean Machine had artistic genius in its prescience. Take the word ‘mean.’ It has a possible triple entendre. On first view it implies the words nasty, destructive or cruel. On another view the word suggests meaning. The overall machine determines meaning. The third layer of meaning of the word ‘mean’ can be related to the idea of the average. We are sold consumerism and materialism by Mammon through machines and mechanisms. It is sold in an illusory cultural cornucopia of competing and exotic choice. In reality, our diverse world with distinct cultures is being flattened into a battering-ram to break potential resistant homogeneity into fragments. People are reduced to a mean. They are put into artificial compartments, categories and classes to make their manipulation easier by the system. They are data points to be measured, managed and manipulated by our great scientists employed by The Man.

The Last Poets had some soul. No doubt they would be cancelled today. 🎶

“The men will look like the women

And the women like the men

And some will dance in a hypnotic trance

Like as if they have no care

But these will be signs of the changing times

That the end is drawing near.”

These came from the grandfather of rap. Apart from developing the idea of the machine with adjectives or adverbs, specification of the typology of the machine is useful. Even then we tend to ignore the range of particular contexts from crystals to transistors.

The Virgin Analysis and the Solution?

Juxtaposition of the Dynamo and the Virgin from the start of the 20th century by Henry Adams indicated a genuine conflict between the traditional symbol of Christendom and the new electrical or energy age. From Dostoevsky in the Crystal Palace through observations of the Corliss Engine in Philadelphia in 1876 to the dynamos at the Chicago Fair in 1892, the dynamo emerged as an object of quasi-divine nature. It was simulacrum of the divine that would replace revealed wisdom. The transmutation process is clear in the near 50 companies in the Virgin group from balloons to betting. Madonna is Like a Virgin. MacDonalds is reduced to an M like on the Miraculous Medal which also reminds one of the MTV logo and the station which brought her to Catholic countries. Interestingly in Ireland in 1985, there was a spate of alleged apparitions before the MTV and Virgin commercial substitute was released by the altering meaning machine.

If you read the main communist theoreticians you will see a recurrent idea of the management or governance of energy, locomotives, motors and dynamos. This reflects a longer tradition of connection between the engine, engineer, war and colonisation. This was what inspired many and provided the model. The Soviet Union was merely communism with electrification as Lenin said. The Shatura Bog complex was more miraculous than anything religious to Trotsky and others. The worship of Westinghouse dynamos at Chicago in 1893 was continued when the Bolsheviks got the company to help them in Russia. Mythic vindication of liberal progress reinforced Russia’s revolution. Remember before that Franklin was the modern Prometheus with his electrical experiments.

The churches were stripped again, clergy massacred, icons trampled, church metals melted. The mean machine was at work because it had worked through the heads of the revolutionary machines that came from the industrial centres in Switzerland, London and New York. As the revolution occurred, the Virgin warned at Fatima what was happening. Many do not believe that and many will not examine the evidence. That’s called science. It means you start with a materialist or mechanistic bias.

What can be deduced from the long line of contested Marian Apparitions? I suggest there is an utterly consistent narrative or critique of atheistic materialism manifest in Marx and Mammon. Conversion and prayer would need to accompany analysis and contemplation. One of the odd implications is that the spiritual weapons for Catholics (or other Christians) are the contemplation of the Holy Face and Arma Christi. The latter represents the weapons or symbols associated with Christ’s Passion. There is a very curious parallel symbology. It appears to me the solution implied is recovery of symbols and instruments of violent revolutionary mobilisation. Thus contemplation of cock crowing for St. Peter recovers perhaps in some way the cock that symbolises the French Revolution. The hammer that drove the nails into Christ was appropriated in the hammer and sickle. The crown of thorns may represent the management of the brain by technical devices and so on. The Holy Face tradition of St. Thérèse of Lisieux and Sister Marie of St. Peter represents re-iteration of the critical cosmic importance of incarnation and embodiment we reject at our eternal peril.

The Passion of Christ pre-empts or anticipates the potential path of our species. The least we can do is try to comprehend the Christian base of incarnation, individual life and spiritual receptivity, as we relinquish them and embrace the oath to hell instead here on earth and beyond. We must think more exactly about the machine. It was a useful metaphor a century and a half ago. It is not just a metaphor any longer even as we also move on from classic physics. We need new metaphors and analogies as well to analyse the specific nature of NATO offensive strategies in the unfolding New World and possible united front of NATO, Russia and China in the war on natural humanity through neuro-control. But efforts to dispense with the machine metaphor are also premature and possibly counter-productive.

That the media and the message are uniting now in the mind and the machine is arguably less important than management and merging of our consciousness. Memes and modulations manipulate and manufacture us. Some spiritual insurgency will be needed and that will be supernatural. Believe it or not. But until then, we must become wise as serpents and gentle as doves. We must get our analysis correct before we each make choices about our destiny.

Conclusion: Beyond the Murder Machine (or not)

I look forward to hearing more ideas about The Machine by bright writers, especially those with a spiritual foundation. The Machine is a useful idea when explained and added to but can be misleading in a left-brained context and may lead to an idea it is the mechanical things and accoutrements that are the problem. That is why nearly a century ago Ellul began to focus on technique and others on process. The machine does something. Machines are less like machines these days. The symptoms or fruiting metallic body of a military-industrial mycelium is not the monstrous mental or psychic processes that manufacture and make it. The thing-in-itself is not the thing in itself. It is very useful to explain to people but potentially anachronistic per se in an algorithmic age of imprinted black magic symbolism and processual projections. The metaphysical message represents a recovery of some original potential screen of perception. We need our closing spiritual eyes to be reopened. Organic, cybernetic interfaces of governance message and massage the masses in a sacrifice of the essence of humanity itself to the medium and not through a Mediatrix.

The phenomenological presence of AI is something greater than a machine in its reflexive interaction with our psychic infrastructure and goes beyond any static system. Even the political, economic, entertainment, industrial, financial, military and governance machines are encoded for encounters, exploitations, empirical results, experiences and extrapolations that are dependent on psycho-social opportunism and technique. The original source and sustaining force are spiritual and moral related to conception of who we are and what we shall become, informed by concepts of God, the nature of consciousness and its survival and optimisation of social arrangements as a result. As a mirror, AI will reveal ourselves. Unfortunately, as it has come from the military-industrial complex, it will reveal the worst of us despite advantages, especially when spiritual communities have lost their bottle. I support critique of the machine and Machine. We must all work to add to such analyses and improve so we can support a resistance.

Patrick Pearse who led the 1916 rebellion, talked about The Murder Machine. He focused on the British educational system and how it turned people into things. He said that the English had intended to have a law which involved castration of priests but that this system did that job with men. It murdered the soul, stifled imagination and individual creativity. As such it was the soft manifestation of a deadlier murder machine. Unfortunately the image that recurs to me in an extended permanent revolution of left and right conjoined in transnational corporate form through converged technological networks is of a circular saw whose turning is so swift we cannot see it and which is fed with all that is natural and whole. Retail means to cut off or cut down. Scientific method and philosophy reduce. Atomistic thinking breaks down. That is why transnational corporate power wants to build back better and ‘make’ sense for you.

As Ken Kesey made out in the prophetic One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, The Combine runs the machine and we are broken machines needing to be fixed by bigger ones and subject to a behavioural fog machine. But it’s worse. We are to be combined into the machine, digitally and then through AI-nanotech brain computer interfaces. We must assert our humanity and recognise the magic spell we have been under as we seek to recover, resist, respond and rise spiritually.
